The Way to a Man's Heart- Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup

The Way to a Man's ♥
Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup
I've been thinking a lot about this and since December will be the last of my SCENTsational Saturdays regarding my own favorites about perfumes and fragrances- Ironic, my favorites worked out to be just the right amount for each month this year when I started doing it.
Starting next year, I'm switching things up and turning Saturdays fully into RECIPE day, so I hope you'll continue to join me through the rest of this year and into next year, as
The Way to a Man's ♥
 gets underway.
Today I'm offering my own version of Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup. My tastes have outgrown Campbell's Basic Chicken Noodle, but though Progresso has a decent one with big noodles and chunky veggies, I'd rather have fresh chicken instead of what comes in a can and a person can only eat so much Ramen before the body says- whoa...what's up with all the salt?
It doesn't hurt that after making this on the fly based on what I thought ought to go in typical homemade chicken noodle soup, my husband and kids love it so much, it gets suggested all the time for the menu, even when we've had it the week beforehand.
So here it is-
Taryn's Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup

Ingredients:
2- 32 oz. Chicken Stock/Broth
2 chicken breasts
1 small onion, diced
3-4 carrots, cut in rounds
3 celery sticks,
1/2 to a whole stick of butter
salt and pepper
12 oz bag Extra Wide Egg Noodles
Water

Crackers

Instructions:
  1. Dice onions and cut up celery and carrots
  2. Add them to a stove top dutch oven or large pan with 1/2-1 stick of butter
  3. Add chicken breasts, broth and pepper
  4. Simmer for 2-3 hours until chicken is tender, remove from stock and cut into bite-size pieces, then return to pan
  5. Add 2-3 cups water, salt & (more pepper if needed) to taste and entire bag of Egg Noodles
  6. Simmer on low-to med until noodles are done, serve with saltines

Taryn Raye's The Way to a Man's Heart- Stroganoff

 The Way to a Man's ♥
Taryn's Stroganoff

A while back, I got the notion that making beef stroganoff couldn't possibly be that hard and would probably taste better homemade than out of one of the quick dinner boxes or one of those "helper" meals- so I decided to try it myself. This is, of course, another favorite of my husband's and my kids.

Ingredients:
1- 1 1/2 pounds round steak, cubed
1 small onion, diced
1 package of fresh mushrooms, sliced (Your choice)
1 (13-3/4 oz) Can of Beef Broth
salt, pepper to taste
Wide Egg Noodles
2 Tablespoons All-Purpose Flour
1 8 oz. of Sour Cream

Instructions:

I prepared the meat, onion, mushrooms, broth, salt and pepper early in the morning for a supper meal. Place all these ingredients in the crock pot and cook on low all day.

Cook noodles (8-12 oz) package until tender, drain water from them.

Drain broth from crock pot into a pan and mix together with the 2 Tablespoons of All-Purpose Flour and the 8 oz. of Sour Cream until thickens and is creamy, then mix all ingredients- meat/onion/mushrooms with noodles and sauce. Add additional salt and pepper to taste, if needed.

Serve hot and with rolls and a side if you wish.

#SCENTsational Saturdays- The Way to a Man's Heart- Pineapple Upside-down Cake

The Way to a Man's ♥
Pineapple Upside-down Cake

Since October is my husband's birth month, I'll share his favorite dessert- Pineapple Upside-down Cake.

My recipe is a spin off of the Betty Crocker box recipe-

Ingredients:
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 can (20 oz) pineapple rings in juice, drain juice and reserve it
1 small can crushed pineapple, drain juice and reserve with other
Maraschino Cherries, destemmed, drained
1 box Yellow Cake Mix
Vegetable oils and eggs called for on cake mix box

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 350º (325º for dark or nonstick pan). In 9X13, melt butter in oven. Sprinkle brown sugar evenly over melted butter. Arrange pineapple rings on top of that, add in drained crushed pineapple in surrounded empty areas. Place cherries in center of pineapple rings. Press gently into brown sugar.

Use reserved pineapple juice and enough water to measure 1 1/4 cups. Make cake batter as directed, substituting the pineapple juice for water. Pour batter into pan and tap pan a few times on counter to knock out air bubbles.

Bake 40-45 minutes (42-48 for dark or nonstick pan) or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Run knife around side of pan to loosen cake, then place heat-proof plate upside down on pan and turn plate and pan over. Leave for 5 minutes so brown sugar topping drizzles over cake, then remove pan. Cool 30 minutes (though my husband loves it fresh and warm out of the pan). Serve warm or cool, store covered in refrigerator.

Note- I've found, that due to the use of fruit and fruit juices, the pineapple with sour the cake if it's left out or if it's not eaten within a couple of days, so eat that baby up!

#SCENTsational Saturday- The Way to a Man's Heart- Meatloaf

The Way to a Man's ♥
Taryn's Meatloaf

Ingredients:
1 pound ground beef
1 egg
approximately 1/2 cup Quick Oats
Salt & Pepper
Ketchup
1/2 small onion, diced fine

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 350º-375º

Mix ground beef, egg, 1/2 cup Quick Oats (enough to make solid but not too much), diced onion, salt and pepper (eyeball it) and generous squirt of ketchup together until it's a moist yet firm loaf. Place in foil lined 9X13 to shape and flatten to thickness you desire. I usually pat it down to nearly fit the pan, leaving 1/2 inch to an inch around so that sides of meat are not touching foil. Usually pat it down to about an inch thickness.

Smear top with generous layer of ketchup and sprinkle with pepper. Fill dish with enough water to surround meatloaf- I do this to keep the meatloaf from burning on the bottom, plus I find it seems to draw the grease away from the meatloaf without detracting from the moistness or flavor.

Bake 45 minutes to an hour. Serve with mashed potatoes and green beans or your favorite meatloaf side dishes.

(Seen served here with sweet peas, brussel sprouts and my Cheesy Bacon Tators)

#MemoryLane Mondays~ Country Roads, Take Me Home...

To the place that I belong...
Saturday afternoon, after I fixed homemade pizza while my husband mowed the lawn, we ate lunch and then headed out to go do a little shopping at the Mennonite Grocery not far from where we live. They have lots of fresh fruits and vegetables but also local honey and sorghum, homemade jams and jellies, cookies and breads and fudge.

I only needed tomatoes (don't even get me started on how awful store-bought ones taste to me- garbage, blech!) but we were having tacos and burritos later this week and well, I just don't trust the tomatoes I buy at the store anymore and saw no reason to waste money on something that tastes bad or is rotten and then have to throw it away.

I'd shop from our Mennonite grocer more often if I could just convince hubby it's worth the extra trip to get the fresh produce every week. In the mean time, I'll make do with what I can get, but I enjoy the chance to shop local and definitely feel confident in buying from the Mennonite community.

As soon as we stepped out the front door, a wave of nostalgia swept over me. Gone was the stifling heat and humidity we've grown accustom to this summer. In it's place was the smell of fresh cut grass, reminding me of watermelon and childhood summers in the country.

The sky even seemed bluer than it's been in, gosh, I don't even remember. I felt like I could breath beneath that pristine blue and the bright white fluffy clouds that drifted by overhead. Grass seemed greener and the air felt clean as it hit my lungs. It wasn't heavy or stuffy anymore. And I didn't feel heavy or stuffy either.

We rode to town to get cash, the windows down. I stuck my arm out the window, enjoying the cool in the air, the blast of it against my skin, swirling my hair around my shoulders and rejuvenating my soul. I haven't felt that good, that free, in months and I can feel the shifting of seasonal things. It's not visible yet- no leaves changing color, but there is an undercurrent of change surrounding us and I love that I know this.
When we arrived at the Triple G, there was a clicking gear-grinding sound and my husband says, "Check out the horse." Between their store and the storage barn they have you could see behind the building that they had a horse on some sort of conveyor, walking and turning the gears for something. We didn't ask, but I'm sure it was for powering something they needed for running the small store, perhaps water to a well or something.

I got my tomatoes and hubby got a seedless watermelon and some homemade chocolate chip cookies and my daughter got a small plate of peanut butter fudge. As we left, hubby asked if we needed to be in a hurry to get back to the house and I told him no. He said we'd take the long scenic route home, so we just drove around in the country and he showed us places he knows in his hometown.

This is a rare treat as we usually don't go out and just ride around. When I was a kid growing up, summer Saturday nights were often spent riding around the countryside with my grandpa and uncle, just to get out of the house. I waved at people sitting on their front porches, who were strangers to me, but who seemed to know my grandpa and uncle well.
This is the imagery that shivered to the surface of my recollection as we drove through the countryside. The sky seemed as blue as I remember from my childhood, bluer even, the clouds so soft and white I wanted to touch them, pull them down and use them for pillows for a lazy summer afternoon nap. As we traveled deeper into the twisty byways of Kentucky hills and dales, passing along on narrow tree-lined shady lanes with cool air winding in through the windows and around us, through golden splotches of sunlight dappling the gray asphalt, the nostalgia morphed into melancholy and tears visited my eyes, though I didn't shed any.

I took a deep breath, the cloying aroma of newly baled hay and cut tobacco filtered through and awoke memories long buried, but not forgotten. An army of tall corn stalks stood as weary sentinels around a sharp curving lane, bidding us safe passage into the back roads, the hidden treasures of old dilapidated houses and barns, of cows resting beneath shade trees and horses grazing nearby fence lines. I saw my first ever black and white spotted mule and wished my grandpa were still around to see it and share in that wonder with me. I'm not sure if it was a painted or a palomino or what, but I've never seen anything like it in my life.

We rambled along, zipping around corners, the wind like cool hair combed through my fingertips as we headed south. We passed our turn off, ending up cruising along, taking in the beautiful homes and fence-lined pastures in Tennessee before we circled back around and crossed the state line and bounced up the hill toward home... It was truly a lovely afternoon outing and one I hope we repeat. Maybe next time I'll take my camera and snap pictures to share (as the ones shared today are just from our drive back from Franklin, KY last month.)
Treasure the moments and remember the memories.

#SCENTsational Saturdays- Dry Hair & Scalp Needs Moisture

A while back I posted about how every shampoo and conditioner I use breaks my scalp out and I couldn't seem to find a combination that worked and yet still made me feel "like the heroine" of my love story. Well, I think I've discovered the secret.

For years, I've had very think, coarse, oily hair, so I normally bought shampoo for normal to oily hair types. That's all well and good, but I do believe that as we age, things about us must age and change as well. My hair has, as I've discovered. Yes, the "dandruff" shampoo works to keep my scalp from breaking out in sores, but I found that wasn't always helpful either.

And then one day it occurred to me as I was looking through shelf after shelf of shampoos and conditioners and treatments, what if I've used the ones that "strip" the oils and moisture from my hair and scalp all these years, in fact creating the need for something specifically aimed at people with DRY hair.

I mean, after all, my hair was no longer limp and greasy a day after shampooing. No, it was wild and frizzy and utterly out of my control. I really had become Rosanne Rosannadanna, as I'd been teased by my parents in my childhood. What if I had misdiagnosed my hair type all these years?

So instead of grabbing the next normal to oily product, I reached instead for Suave Professionals Almond & Shea Butter- for moisturizing the dryness away. And guess what? It worked. I've almost used up both bottles and have yet to have any sores break out in my head. Granted, my ears are dry, but not sure I can blame that on the shampoo and conditioner or just this hot hot dry weather we've had this summer.

Regardless, I've found that switching my type of shampoo needs has made a drastic improvement to my hair. Not only do I not have sores, but my hair is smoother and more manageable and I know I sound like a commercial, but I'm actually just tickled that I figured what the issues was with my shampoo. Here's hoping that this continues to be a good solution to the problem and it was a cheaper solution than I had thought it would be.

#SCENTsational Saturdays- Fave Number 7- Degree Sexy Intrigue

Rich jasmine and exotic red rose blend sensuously with strawberries, blackberries, and peaches. While sultry back notes of creamy sandalwood and amber mingle with Tahitian vanilla for an addictive scent that’s sure to leave a lasting impression.

This is one of my new favorites and it's not even a brand name perfume, but an accompanying fragrance to be used with the Degree Sexy Intrigue Deodorant. It's soft, sweet and makes me think of warm summer nights, sweet goodnight kisses, and a lover's embrace. It's youthful, but mature and smells absolutely fantastic.

In fact, it kind of makes me feel like this new Maroon 5 song- Love Somebody. No video yet, but would love to see one.

#SCENTsational Saturdays- Healing Garden Fragrances

I've had this collection for a very long time and it seems from my online search for it, The Healing Garden products still exist, though they are not all the same as they were when I bought these originally. In fact, it would seem that mine were put out by Coty (LOL, isn't EVERY fragrance I own?!?!) but now the line is owned by Calgon instead (Take me away!) (and I do have the Hawaiian Ginger put out by Calgon, and I tried their Moon Petal Musk but gave it to my mom because it didn't smell good on me and gave me a headache.)

These have lasted longer than most regular bottles of perfume though because they're made with essential oil extracts of their ingredients so they've held up well over the past decade and I can still use them now, unlike some perfumes that tend to age poorly and become more alcohol than fragrance.

From left to right are as follows-all mention that its light, silkening conditioners bond with the moisture in your skin, allowing the soothing scent to linger.

1.) lavendertheraphy- relaxation body mist- with natural extracts of lavender flowers, chamomile and valerian.
2.) jasminetheraphy- sensual body mist- with natural extracts of ylang ylang, passion flower and neroli.
3.) junipertheraphy- clarity body mist- with extracts of geranium and ginkgo leaf.
4.) gingerlily theraphy- positivity body mist- with natural extracts of rosemary, cypress and st. john's wort.
5.) tangerinetheraphy- energizing body mist- with natural extracts of tea tree, ginseng, mandarin and balm mint.
6.) green teatheraphy- enlightening body mist- with natural extracts of asian sandalwood, peony petals and everlasting.

The tangerine one was my favorite, as evidenced by the fact that the bottle is nearly empty, but the jasmine comes a close 2nd and the green tea 3rd. Overall, I enjoy each one and find that on days when I need a touch extra to boost my mood, these are wonderful, light scents that don't take themselves, too serious.

Enjoy this relaxing song from Ben Taylor from his Famous Among the Barns album....
We sure could use the Rain....

#SCENTsational (Sexy) Saturdays- Favorite No. 6- Frederick's of Hollywood Signature Fragrance

The Signature Fragrance by Frederick’s of Hollywood is our most popular scent ever--and for some very alluring reasons. Both intoxicating and soothing, flirty and seductive, it's a fragrance like no other. Notes include:

• Lush Egyptian Jasmine and Mandarin
• Warm Patchouli and hints of Oriental Spice
• Sandalwood, Sensual Suede and Cashmere Musk

As you can tell, I've used this bottle nearly up and I'm going to need a new one at some point. The tones of this perfume are very subtle and warm. Again I have to have my musk and sandalwood and oriental notes.

This IS one of my all-time favorites. It's sexy and intriguing, but also reminds me of romantic times with my husband, the holidays with family and friends, and it's not so loud and overpowering that you couldn't wear it on a daily basis, though I love so many, I have to mix it up depending on my mood.

And a little bit of sexy for your Saturday- 3 of my Favorite Sexy Men...

Hope you have a SCENTsational and Sexy Saturday!

#SCENTsational Saturdays- Through the Years- Skin Musk by Bonne Bell

Skin Musk is clean, fresh and sexy! Let the soft aroma of floral, sandalwood and musk embrace you. A touch is all it takes to turn on the romance.

Ah...another perfume that, surprise surprise, has sandalwood in it! LOL Even without picking it intentionally, it's another fragrance I veer toward when picking perfumes. This perfume is actually still sold in stores and can commonly be found at Wal-Mart. I don't have any at the moment, but I've been tempted to buy a new bottle of it, just to see if I still like the smell as much as I did in my youth. Life has changed and I wonder if this one would be much like Exclamation, which might throw me into a fit of migraine attacks.

But having said that, I do remember fondly wearing this until I emptied the bottle and had to buy a new one and I seem to recall doing that a lot, so this must have had quite a few qualities I liked, one of which I do remember specifically. It has staying power. You don't have to apply a lot and the fragrance would stay with you from morning till night.

What I remember about it was that it was a "louder" scent than most perfumes that young girls wore, it was more sensual and to me represented being older, perhaps more sophisticated and feminine, which as some point, all young girls want to be.

When I think if this perfume, a few oldies but goodies from my youth come to mind musically, so I'll share a few videos today-

#SCENTsational Saturdays- The Way to a Man's ♥- Meatballs

The Way to a Man's ♥Heart♥
Homemade Meatballs

In my current work-in-progress, Perfect Recipe for Love, Ben runs a restaurant called "Ben There, Ate That" and in one scene, he and the heroine, Sunni, are at the restaurant where she's learning the ropes about cooking. I attribute this very same recipe of mine, to Ben, as he explains to Sunni about growing up with four brothers and a single mom. His creativity in the kitchen had always been a blessing, as his meatball recipe stretched the meat just a little bit farther for their family when money was tight, so they could make two meals out of one. Now he uses it as a signature item on his menu for either spaghetti dishes or sub sandwiches.

I love this scene, as Ben, who's very close-off emotionally, gives Sunni a glimpse into himself and his past. Ben puts love into his food and that, to me, is a quality also about the way to a man's heart. He understands that the best and most delectable foods comes from being passionate about cooking, the love and care that goes into making it and is also proof that he's not as closed-off emotionally as he thinks.

Now, I'm not a fan of store-bought meatballs, because it always puts me in the mind of the Chef Boyardee I ate as a kid. My husband loves meatballs and he's not a fan of store-bought ones either. His mom has a recipe he wants, but she teases that he won't get it until she's gone, so we decided we'd just have to come up with something of our own. (That's something else I've learned about men, or at least my husband- if we create a dish together, it goes straight to his heart, too because it's "ours" and nobody else can claim it.)

I started with the basic ingredients from my meatloaf recipe- the pound of ground beef, onion, egg, then switched out the quick oats I normally use and replaced them with crushed saltines. Then I added Parmesan, garlic powder, Italian seasoning and garlic pepper for flavor and instead of using plain old ketchup I mixed in a little spaghetti sauce to moisten.

Surprisingly, this recipe turned out great the very first time I made it and it went over well with my husband and the kids. In fact, it turns out good every time. It works great for spaghetti and subs.

 1 package saltines, finely crushed
1/2-3/4 cup parmesan cheese
Garlic Powder
Italian Seasoning
Garlic Pepper
1 lb lean ground beef
1 egg
½ of a finely diced sweet onion
1/2-1 cup, approximately, spaghetti sauce
Directions- Preheat oven to 350º
1.)                Crush saltines in Ziploc bag until fine. Add parmesan cheese, a few dashes of garlic powder, Italian Seasoning and Garlic Pepper. (I measure this by eye- as to what I think looks about right.) Seal bag again and shake until mixed thoroughly.
2.)                In large bowl, mix hamburger, egg, diced onion and spaghetti sauce by hand until well combined. Mix in cracker mixture, until it holds together firmly as if you were making a meatloaf.
3.)                Spray foil lined large cookie sheet with cooking spray. Shape into balls and place on cookie sheet. Bake in oven for 15 minutes at 350º. Remove from oven and turn over then bake for another 15 minutes till golden brown.
4.)                Place in large covered pan with spaghetti sauce(I used 2 jars to cover all meatballs) to simmer on low until all is hot and can be served over spaghetti.

Hope you have a SCENTsational Saturday!

#SCENTsational Saturdays- #Fave #5- #Jovan #WhiteMusk

Unpredictable in spirit, pure in its essence. Exquisite in its delicacy. Alluring Jasmine, ylang-ylang, and honeysuckle blend with sensual musk, soft woods, and amber. The result is a warm and purely feminine fragrance.

Every time I wear this, I'm transported back to my early-20s. I was living on my own, working at a factory where I printed keys for laptops, ironically. When I wasn't working, I hung out in my apartment with friends, went to the movies or out to eat. Sometimes I went to the local American Legion to listen to live music and maybe get up and dance a slow song if the right guy asked me. That wasn't often and usually it was a handsome stranger who shared one slow dance rather than the current guy in my life.

My biggest concerns were paying the bills, buying groceries and finding a way to get to the laundromat when I didn't have work so I would have clean clothes in my closet and dresser. Honestly though, life seemed more carefree back then...even with bills to pay and work everyday.

Of course, I wanted to get married and worried about whether my current relationship would amount to a hill of beans. I knew I was wanted, needed, desired, but needless to say, it didn't work out and neither did a few others after that, but I was having fun and living life. Even with all the heartache I also associate with that time, I also have a lot of great memories, too. I guess that's what those early years were for though- growing and learning. I sometimes think I took the freedom of my early 20s for granted, but I wouldn't trade that time in my life for the world.

I think that's what Jovan's White Musk represents for me- a more youthful side of me- the side that doesn't feel like a "mom" or a "wife" even, but that young woman who was spontaneous and carefree and enjoying life in the moment. I guess that's why I still wear it- because it reminds me that I am a woman, I am beautiful and desirable and wanted. And there's nothing wrong with that.

Ladies, find that thing today that reminds you that YOU are a woman, your own heroine!
Men, don't let your women forget that you know this fact!
Hope you have a SCENTsational Saturday!

#SCENTsational Saturdays- Through the Years- #Emeraude

Emeraude by Coty

Emeraude by Coty is a Oriental fragrance for women. Emeraude was launched in 1921. The nose behind this fragrance is Francois Coty. Top notes are orange, bergamot and lemon; middle notes are jasmine, ylang-ylang, rose and brazilian rosewood; base notes are amber, sandalwood, patchouli, opoponax, benzoin and vanilla.

Recommended Use: evening

I remember wearing this perfume for a very long time through my teens. The fact that all my favorite fragrances came from Coty, this one should come as no surprise as a favorite either. My mom wore Charlie, which always gave me a busting headache, but she had the same complaint about me wearing Emeraude. Ironically, I gave this fragrance up years ago- I probably haven't worn it in more than a decade, but my mom now keeps a bottle on her bathroom shelf and occasionally wears it.

There was something elegant about the box, the green and gold that drew me to it and the fragrance made me feel grown up during those very early formative years of adolescence and it was probably the first perfume I wore most often.

The strangest thing about the memories I associate with this specific fragrance are memories of V.C. Andrews' family saga, Flowers in the Attic and the diamond and emerald earrings and green velvet and chiffon dress that Cathy admired her mother wearing the night she allowed Cathy and Chris to sneak out of the room to view the Christmas party, when they saw their mother with Bartholomew Winslow.

This just reminds me how vivid her writing was, how greatly I admire her ability to weave clear description that still sparkles and lives on from page to memory. It leaves me feeling inspired and hopeful that the words I put to the page, each time I tell a story, each time I mold and shape my characters and build their worlds leaves that kind of impression on readers of my works.

And now that I've teared up a little, I think that's enough rambling...

Whether it's a fragrance or a book that wraps you in fond memory-
I hope you have a SCENTsational Saturday!

#SCENTsational Saturdays- Does Your #Hero Smell? 2nd #Favorite- #Eternity

  • distinctive. romantic. timeless. the spirit of today's man: sensitive yet masculine, refined yet strong with a modern vitality and confidence. refreshing and exhilarating with a cool, crisp edge and a warm, woodsy trail. iconic crystal bottle with silver-tone cap designed by Pierre Dinand.

  • top notes: mandarin, lavender, green botanicals
  • mid notes: jasmine, basil, geranium, sage
  • base notes: sandalwood, vetiver, rosewood, amber
Eternity has always been a favorite of mine. I've known a few men in my time who wore this cologne and I just wanted to eat them up. It's sensual, romantic and masculine- drawing attention to the male wearing it. For me it speaks of comfort- that the man wearing it could pull you into his arms and you'd feel the warmth of comfort wash over you when you needed a hug or a shoulder to cry on, but at the same time, he could sweep you off your feet with a sweet single kiss.

What's one of your favorites?

#SCENTsational Saturdays- The Way To A Man's ♥- Hot #Chicken #Casserole & Happy Derby Day!

Around here, we have a lot of "comfort" foods and this one is an all-time favorite of my husband and the kids.
Originally procured from an ex's mother's recipes, it stood the test of time in this household.

Hot Chicken Casserole

1-1 1/2 cups of crushed Ritz crackers (1-1 1/2 rolls)
1/2 cup melted butter (1-1 1/2 sticks)
2-3 chicken breasts (cooked and cut into bite size pieces)
1- 8 oz. Sour Cream
1 can Cream of Chicken Soup
1/2 cup of Chicken Broth (from cooked chicken)

Simmer chicken with a couple TBSPs of butter, pepper and a dash of salt until thoroughly cooked.

Melt stick butter and mix with cracker crumbs- Place 1/2 on bottom of 7x11 (thick) or 9x13 (thinner) casserole dish, sprayed with cooking spray.

Place cooked, cut up chicken in dish on top of cracker crumbs.

Whisk together Sour Cream, Cream of Chicken Soup and Chicken Broth and pour evenly over chicken.

Top with remaining crack/butter mixture.

Bake on center rack in preheated 350º oven for 30-40 minutes, or until lightly golden on top.

You can also use 8x8 square glass casserole if you want it much thicker.

The last time I made this dish, I served it with steamed broccoli (with butter, brown sugar, soy sauce & dash of salt), Roma tomato slices and a dinner roll. (Mustard Greens are also a nice complementary side if you like it)

In Maddie James' Family Stories, Family Recipes, this recipe is listed as

#SCENTsational Saturdays- Through The Years- #Exclamation

Introduced in 1988, Exclamation has hints of peach, apricot, amber and sandalwood and it definitely leaves an impression.

When I smell this fragrance nowadays, I find it hard to believe I ever wore it when I was a quiet, shy chubby teenage girl. This was not, is not, a scent for the timid. This perfume shouted from the rooftops that you had arrived, you were there! EXCLAMATION! No ifs, ands or buts about it. Others would know you were coming before you entered the room.

The funniest thing, it gave me a busting headache and yet, I wore it. My mom HATED it- thought it the most loud odor she'd ever had the misfortune to gift to me at the holidays and dreaded every spritz of my bottle. I'm sure there were times she hoped that I'd finally hit the bottom of that little white bottle, but then, if I had allowance money, I'd head straight to the store to buy more.

Now I can do without the overpowering scent, but the thing I cherish most about it- the imagery and memories it conjures up- music and time, divided by decades, but one whiff of Exclamation and I'm there all over again- Take a musical journey with me-

Do you remember any of these songs?
What were some of your favorites late 80's/early 90's?

#SCENTsational Saturdays- #Floral #Inspiration #Love #Spring

Spring brings plenty to inspire with the lovely colors and fragrances in nature. The soft aroma of lilacs and roses fill the air along with hyacinths and honeysuckles, welcoming and awakening the world around us and embracing it with the warmth that dissipated in the fall and winter months.
These scents also put me in the mind of romance and love because it inspires the softness and simplicity of beauty in it's most basic form- and in a way we don't get in the hazy heat of summer or the crispness of fall or the chill of winter.
That rebirth of Life in spring feels like falling in love, over and over again. What other time of the year, do you feel as young as you did in your youth? So full of hope and ideas and emotions. It's rejuvenating and uplifting to know you made it through the cold spell. That things are greening up and blooming out.I could spend all day outside under the pristine blue skies and enjoy the fragrance that abounds at this time of year. It spells hope for new growth, for transitioning into a new phase in your life, a brighter, fresher view of the world, the people around you and gives new focus to what your life is all about.Enjoy the beauty around us, the joy of new life taking shape, love renewing itself in our hearts and the world. Don't waste time on petty things. Enjoy the here and now.
What are some of your favorite fragrant blooms? Please feel free to share with me.
Would love the company!

Hope you have a SCENTsational Saturday!

#SCENTsational Saturdays- The Way to a Man's Heart...#Food #Recipes

I completely forgot to schedule this, so I'm running late this morning as I didn't remember until I was making cinnamon French toast for myself and my daughter for breakfast.

The other day I was thinking about how "Scents" encompass more than just fragrances, lotions, shampoos, etc. In fact, everyday we're surrounded by aromas that send our senses on a memorable journey- sometimes eliciting fond nostalgia for childhood and home as well as your first love or your first apartment.

And then another thought struck me while writing my blog for Potluck with Judy earlier this week. I mentioned that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach and so it got me to chewing that thought over, as I've been wondering what other things I could talk about on SCENTsational Saturdays. Food and recipes seems high on the list. Just as my favorite fragrances make me feel good—good home-cooking has almost an aphrodisiac effect on my husband, as it does most men.

And so, with that thought in mind, I decided to start sharing a recipe, probably at the first of every month, of foods that I know make for a happy hero (or heroine).

Today I'm sharing what to me is "Grandma & Momma's" Peach Cobbler, but to a lot of people it is known as the "Cuppa Cuppa Cuppa" recipe for most country cobbler desserts.

Grandma & Momma's Peach Cobbler

1 Large can of sliced Peaches (juice 1/2 drained)
1 stick of Butter
1 Cup Flour (self-rising)
1 Cup Sugar
1 Cup Milk
Dash of Cinnamon

Heat oven to 350º.

  1. Melt butter in bottom of pan while oven preheats.
  2. Mix Flour, Sugar, and Milk till smooth.
  3. Add dash of Cinnamon and blend in.
  4. Pour mixture over melted butter
  5. Pour Peaches on top of mix.
  6. Bake for 35 minutes to 1 hour, or until gold and bubbly.

Serves well, a la mode with Vanilla Ice Cream.

#SCENTsational Saturdays- Favorite #Lotions

My favorite lotion is Jergen's Original Scent, with its cherry-almond hydrators and rich moisturization, its my go-to lotion I can rely on to soften my skin, time after time.

I've tried different styles of Vaseline Intensive Care, but none do so well as Jergen's, which is probably why I keep coming back to it. that and its wonderful fragrance, which reminds me a lot of my Cherry Vanilla perfume.

It's also a comforting reminder of my childhood that makes me feel safe and taken care of because it reminds me of my mom. She used this lotion when I was young and it's scent reminds me of home and family, of love and care in a warm way that makes me feel good and leaves my skin nourished and healthy.

Now, I do like this brand I get at Wal-Mart- if you want very thick, buttery lotion, try one of the bodycology body cream. The one pictured here is Vanilla Buttercream. It smells like thick delectable vanilla frosting and a little dab will do you. This one is especially good for hydrating and moisturizing your legs and armpits after you shave.

Stick around and tell me- What's YOUR favorite lotion?
