@magdalenascott Visits Tuesdays with Taryn #NewRelease #TMPress #LadiesofLegend

Tuesdays with Taryn
Magdalena Scott

Please help me in welcoming Magdalena Scott, one of the four fabulous authors who helped build Legend, Tennessee, bringing to life the fictional town wherein so many wonderful stories have been born.

Magdalena's back with a new release from Turquoise Morning Press and she is Building a Dream. Check it out~

What book(s) most influenced you as a writer?
The ones that didn’t have happy endings. I always rewrote them in my head.

What book do you read over and over again?
A Knight in Shining Armor, by Jude Deveraux
Cluny Brown, by Margery Sharp
Simple Abundance, by Sarah ban Breathnach
Simplify Your Life¸ by Elaine St James

Tuesday/Thursday Trio-
1)     Movie- Romancing the Stone
2)     Music- Tom Rasely’s Back in the Window CD
3)     Decadent Dessert- Chocolate truffle. Just one really big one. Mmmmm

What’s the most interesting or bizarre bit of trivia you’ve learned from researching for a novel? That I can learn to trust Wikipedia. Isn’t that interesting? And maybe a little scary?

Novel on your Nightstand:
Who/what are you currently reading? Simple Abundance in the morning and Temptation Ridge by Robyn Carr at night.

Whom would you cast as your Main Characters/Hero/Heroine if your book became a movie? Ooh! Fun… Years ago, the best would have been Meg Ryan as determined artist Chloe McClain and Harrison Ford as the stubborn but sexy Greg Andrews. Sigh

BUILDING A DREAM Blurb
Chloe McClain is an artist, so she’s used to creating something from nothing. This time, though, the project is bigger than her usual canvas—this time she’s bought a big dilapidated building to rehab into a classy art gallery. Should be easy enough; she’ll hire Greg Andrews and his construction crew. Greg’s work has gotten good reviews from everyone in Legend. Of course there is kind of a rush on the project…

Greg is a professional, and his professional opinion is that Chloe’s pile of bricks should be put out of its misery. There’s no way he can bring the place up to code by her deadline, let alone turn it into the showplace she has in mind. But Chloe’s a McClain, and besides a wide stubborn streak, that means deep pockets. Speaking of which, Greg can’t keep his eyes off the back pockets of Chloe’s jeans...

When you live in Legend, Tennessee, there are certain things to remember. People in Legend pull together. Community before self. And you never want to take a wrong step around a McClain—even the cute females.
If you'd like to follow Magdalena you can do so on

Friday Spotlight- Men in Uniform Anthology @FictionWitches #TMPress

We admire a man in uniform, and what better way to celebrate it than a collection of stories inspired by men fighting to defend our country, and the women who love them? This sweet collection of romance spans the generations of men of valor from present day dating back to World War II.

The Authors:
The Imposter, Jennifer Johnson
String of Pearls, Margaret Ethridge
Mind over Matter, Ruth J. Hartman
Dorthea’s War, Lozi Hart
Faith, Love, & the Coastguard, Julie Anne Lindsey
Knight in Armor, Jennifer Anderson
Lightning Always Strikes Twice, Patricia Marie Warren

Excerpt from The Imposter by Jennifer Johnson
Ding.
Paige wrinkled her nose as she stared at Giana’s cell phone sitting on the crate they used as a coffee table.
It was Liam again. The poor guy was deployed in Afghanistan, and Giana was blowing him off refusing to answer emails or calls when Liam’s number came up.
“Giana?” she called to her roommate who was in the bathroom dolling up to go out. “Liam’s emailing you again.”
“I wish he’d get a clue,” her friend replied.
“I don’t see how you can treat him like that, Gi.”
“It’s easy when he’s half a world away.” She walked through the room wearing four inch heels and a tight dress, grabbed her purse, and walked back into the hallway. “Liam’s a sweet guy, but who knows what is going to happen when he gets back, or even what he’s doing over there.”
“He’s probably sleeping in a sand pit somewhere wondering how come you won’t talk to him.” Paige picked up the phone and pressed the Internet email icon.
G, ur on my mind. L.
Paige bit her lip. The poor sweetie.
Glancing back toward the bathroom, she pushed the keys on the screen.
I’m thinking of you too. Miss you.
She pressed send and set Giana’s phone down quickly. In less than a minute, the phone signaled an incoming email.
Y cold shldr?
Why the cold shoulder indeed? What should she say? Because I’m a heartless bitch?
Paige glanced behind her to be sure Giana was still occupied with her reflection in the bathroom mirror.
“Are you sure you’re done with Liam?” she asked aloud.
Giana marched out of the bathroom, and Paige hid the phone under her thigh. “Look. I just can’t deal with him fighting a war for a year, and he told me most of the guys are having to turn right around and get redeployed within two years of coming home. That’s not the kind of life I want. He’s a nice guy, but even he’s not worth it.”
“Can’t you wait until he gets home to break up with him?”
“I am waiting until he gets home to break up with him. How mean do you think I am?”
Paige gestured to Giana’s attire with a raised hand.
“Oh, spare me, Miss Goody Two Shoes. It’d be easy for you to love him. You don’t have a life anyway.”
“Thanks a lot. I think you do enough socializing for both of us.”
Giana smiled wickedly. “That’s right. You go hit the books while I hit the bars. I had two men fighting over me last night.”
Paige resisted the urge to roll her eyes. She was pretty sure they both had won seeing as how Giana had stumbled in about eleven o’clock this morning wearing last night’s prowling clothes.
“Where’s my phone?” Giana’s gaze scanned the room.
Paige’s grip tightened on the phone while she, too, looked around as if searching. “Maybe it’s in your bedroom.”
“I haven’t been in my bedroom except to get my dress.”
Paige didn’t resist the eye roll this time as Giana stalked toward the hallway—probably to the counter in front of the bathroom mirror—her favorite spot in the apartment.
Quickly Paige pulled out the phone and sent another message:
I’m changing emails. Will email you from my new account.

Here's a link to a book review which includes a review for each of the stories. Another Look Book Reviews

Here is a portion from another review: Men In Uniform is great for the reader that just wants something quick, sweet and warmly romantic. Those that have a little thing for our men that serve and those uniforms they don daily.
I give the Men In Uniform anthology 4 stars

You’ll want things for them that you might never have otherwise thought about wanting for someone so fiercely...Another highly recommended read by Renee Vincent!" Night Owl Review, Top Pick

“I loved this story. Ms. Vincent packs more feeling into just over one hundred pages than many authors do in a full-length book.” ~Suzanne Barrett, Romance Author

Author Bio: Renee Vincent holds a passionate interest in Irish and Norse history. She lives in the rolling hills of Kentucky with her husband and two children on a beautiful secluded farm of horses and hay fields. When not writing, she spends her time on the back of a horse, whether with her family or with friends, and thinks there is nothing like the feel of sunlight on your face, the wind in your hair, and the power of the animal beneath you. Seeing the world from a saddle, she says, is by far the best view and the best therapy for a heavy heart or a troubled mind.  www.reneevincent.com

click image above to check it out on Amazon

Sometimes you’re already committed to the wrong person when fate finally brings you the right one.

When NYU professor Daniel Gardner’s career-obsessed wife convinces him to move to the suburbs, he hopes it’s a first step toward starting the family he longs to have. Instead of domestic bliss he finds his neighbor, Marienne Valeti. She loves her freelance design job, but must contend with a growing sense of isolation created by her husband’s indifference. A penchant for good books, bad movies, and Marienne’s to-die-for brownies sparks a powerful bond between them. Passion simmers, but they resist its lure, surrendering only in the seclusion of their minds. Their friendship helps them weather every hardship, from divorce to widowhood, leaving them both secretly wondering if it can survive a first kiss.

About the Author-

Karen Stivali is a prolific writer, compulsive baker and chocoholic with a penchant for books, movies and fictional British men. When she's not writing, she can be found cooking extravagant meals and serving them to family and friends, who never seem to mind the excessive quantities she tends to prepare. She attributes her ability to multitask to the fact that she rarely sleeps, which gives her more hours every day. Prior to deciding to write full time Karen worked as a hand drawn animator, a clinical therapist, and held various food-related jobs ranging from waitress to specialty cake maker. Planning elaborate parties and fundraisers takes up what's left of her time and sanity.

Karen has always been fascinated by the way people relate to one another so she favors books and movies that feature richly detailed characters and their relationships. In her own writing she likes to explore the dynamics between characters and has a tendency to craft romantic love stories filled with sarcasm and sexy details.

Karen has three erotic romance novels published by Ellora's Cave: Always You (September 2011, First Place Winner of the RWA Passionate Plume Award - 2012), Long-Distance Lovers (co-written with Karen Booth, March 2012) and Marry Me (June 2012).

Her first work of women's fiction, Meant To Be, released from Turquoise Morning Press on August 26, 2012. Its sequel, Holding On, will be published by Turquoise Morning Press on November 26,2012. A prequel to Meant to Be appears in the anthology Foreign Affairs (currently available).

#TuesdayswithTaryn Welcomes Back @JudyAlter What's your #writing pattern? #mystery #author

Tuesdays with Taryn
Revisit with Judy Alter

Please help me in welcoming back mystery author (and fellow TMPer), Judy Alter as she shares with us about her writing pattern- Take it away Judy!
~~~~
What’s your writing pattern?
Lately an aphorism has been making the rounds on Facebook: “A writer never has a vacation. Life consists of either writing or thinking about writing.” I wholeheartedly agree, especially if you add marketing under the umbrella of “thinking about writing.” Writers can no longer just write. They have lots of other responsibilities to their careers—social media, writing guest blogs, planning launches and ordering bookmarks and flyers and ad infinitum.
What concerns me these days is the lack of actual writing time. I am retired and theoretically I stay home all day every day—plenty of time to write. In reality it doesn’t work out that way. I admire writers who sit at their desk every day, without fail, from six in the morning until noon or six at night until midnight. I simply can’t do it. Life gets in the way.
Last week I was on a writing spurt. I totaled about 10,000 words for the week. This week (and this is Thursday) I have not written one more word on that novel, though I have jotted down notes for future directions it will take—those three o’clock in the morning thoughts. Yes, I’m always thinking about it. But I’ve been writing guest blogs about Trouble in a Big Box, my newest Kelly O’Connell Mystery just now available. I’ve been co-editing a neighborhood newsletter—why do I have the sinking feeling that I will someday find myself editor, that this is a gentle way to edge me into that responsibility? I’ve been welcoming visitors to our church, either by email or phone call.
And then there are those pesky doctor appointments, the grocery store, and the like. Today alone, by nine-thirty I had been to the veterinary clinic, CVS pharmacy, the cleaners, the gas station, and the grocery store. And I really do try to do yoga every day—it keeps me from aching and other age-related problems (I admit I’m what they pretty much call a senior citizen, though there’s some debate about when that classification kicks in and I may not quite be there yet, depending on your point of view).
I also try to blog daily, and now that school has started, I have a first-grader every afternoon. He goes to school right across the street from my house, and we have snacks, do homework, and all that. I adore him and am glad to give the time, but it is about a two-hour chunk out of my day.
And social life. I am not a reclusive writer. I live alone, so my social life is important to me. This week’s schedule: guests for dinner Monday (this meant cooking, though not an elaborate meal); dinner at the local café with neighbors, a Tuesday ritual; Wednesday, a very special evening at a wine bar with my youngest daughter—just the two of us; dinner with a friend Thursday (we try to eat together and catch up once a week); potluck at my daughter’s house for her friends on Friday—they are lovely to welcome the old lady; and company Saturday night.
I chastise myself for not writing, but then another part of me argues that this is what retirement should be about—doing the things I enjoy. And much as I love writing, I cannot do it all day every day. After about a two-hour stretch, my brain frizzles, though I can on “good” days do two of those stretches. Those are the days I write 2,000 words of more. But it worries me that I write in fits and starts. Some part of my conscience says I should write daily—and last week I did set a daily quota of 1,000 words and met it. It’s just that went out the window this week, and next week isn’t looking a lot better.
I’m not sure I want my publisher to read this!
How about you? Do you have a better schedule than I do? Maybe if I gave up those afternoon naps….
Kelly O’Connell Mysteries
Police officer Mike Shandy says that Kelly O’Connell has a real talent for trouble. She maintains that she’s looking out for her daughters and her beloved older, inner-city neighborhood. He says she should let the police do their work and stay out of things. She argues that she would if they’d move fast enough and act on the tips she gives them. She has been vandalized, stalked, almost shot, almost asphyxiated, and faced an unwanted one-way trip to Mexico. Kelly is drawn into crime-solving by her curiosity, her compassion, and her outrage at injustice. Every time she thinks  things will settle down, life throws another puzzling crime in her direction.
